MOAB, UT -It was Tuesday in Moab and that means that Hawk Strictly Suzuki would be hosting a trail run on the Poison Spider Mesa Trail. Rick and Cindy Hawkins have been graciously hosting a trail run three years running and each year the crowd of participants grow as word gets out about the good trail and the great time to be had on this run.
This year proved to be no exception as 20+ participants showed up at City Market to join in on the run. We convoy’d to the Poison Spider Mesa trail head and prepared by airing down and listening to the soothing sounds of Bob Gassert’s flute. Then, we were off. This trail is one of the more popular ones in Moab so it is best to move a long at a good pace. Otherwise a group could end up spending all day on this in-and-out 4 hour trail.
The group casually moved along with some people taking the harder lines that the obsticles had to offer and others just getting through so they could continue on and see what was around the bend.
There was only one real bit of breakage and one flop on this day as everyone was treated to a good sampling of rocks, ledges, verticle climbs, dune running, and views.
At lunch Rick and Cindy handed out commerative T-Shirts to the participants as a couple of the group played on the sand dunes where we decided to stop and have lunch. We finished up the loop driving it clockwise and headed out the way we came in. All was quiet and then suddenly we heard, “the white Samurai is over!” What? Which white Samurai? Where was it over? Come to find out that one of the group had laid their Samurai over in the v-notch named ‘Wedgie’ as we were heading out. Luckily, it was not a bad roll and the driver was able to drive out of it with only a little assistance from the rest of the crew.
The following is a photo gallery of the day:
Thank you, Rick and Cindy Hawkins of Hawk Strictly Suzuki, for sponsoring and leading a run for this year’s ZUKIWORLD ‘Zukfari.
